GREEN COMMUNITIES

“Going green” means to pursue knowledge and practices that can lead to more environmentally friendly and ecologically responsible decisions and lifestyles, which can help protect the environment and sustain its natural resources for current and future generations.

Why Is Sustainability Important?

The National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 committed the United States to sustainability, declaring it a national policy “to create and maintain conditions under which humans and nature can exist in productive harmony, that permit fulfilling the social, economic and other requirements of present and future generations.”

In the years since NEPA was enacted, the public’s interest in sustainability has broadened. According to the National Research Council, there are many additional drivers for sustainability. In the areas where the US has seen considerable progress in sustainability, a common driver for sustainability efforts is citizens and other stakeholders concern. In addition, sustainability practitioners are becoming more ambitious in their sustainability efforts and are working together to share best practices to ensure the greatest environmental, economic and social impact.

Britel Center is planning to launch a series of  workshops in partnership with other ECO-Friendly nonprofits that will teach people about the importance of switching and using clean energy resources to reduce and prevent local pollution. The workshops will inform community participants of how to grow and maintain home gardens of organic fruits and vegetables. Other more encompassing and ambitious projects will focus on showing these communities how to create and maintain park spaces where they can enjoy sport amenities and the implementation of other ecological activities directed toward halting and one day reversing the effects of the humanity induced global warming.
