Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) allows certain non citizens who are in abusive situations, to petition without the assistance of the abusive spouse or parent, for lawful permanent residency.

We offer programs and resources for individuals involved in abusive relationships or suffer from an act of domestic violence.

According to advocates,  domestic violence can be defined as a pattern of behavior in a  relationship that is used to gain or maintain power and control over an intimate partner, family member or friend and even an acquaintance. Abuse can be physical, verbal, sexual, emotional, economic or psychological actions or threats of actions that influence the other person in a negative way. Other behaviors that can be exhibited by an abuser will be to frighten, intimidate, terrorize, manipulate, hurt, humiliate, blame, injure, or wound someone physically, mentally and even spiritually. Domestic violence can happen to anyone of any race, age, sexual orientation, economic class, immigration status, religion, or gender. It can happen to couples that are married, living together, or who are dating. Domestic violence affects people of all socioeconomic backgrounds and education levels.
